About Us
The Process Innovation & AutomationLab is the transfer and experimentation platform of the Chair of Information Systems and Transformation Management at the University of Duisburg-Essen.
We connect research, teaching, and practice. Students, researchers, and industry partners work together on digital solutions for modern business processes. The lab focuses on process innovation, automation,
ERP systems, AI-supported workflows, and the practical use of emerging technologies in organizations.
Our goal is to make digital transformation not only understandable, but hands-on and experienceable.
Event Overview
We are excited to announce an upcoming event hosted at the Process Innovation and Automation Lab (PIA Lab) at the University of Duisburg-Essen. The event will focus on how Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming Human Resources (HR) processes and the growing importance of human competencies in this evolving landscape.

Our digital Tools
The PIA Lab provides selected digital systems that allow students to explore modern process automation in a practical and hands-on way.
You must be connected to the edu VPN or to the Uni Network to connect to all sites mentioned below.
n8n – Workflow Automation
With n8n, students can visually create, test, and automate workflows. They learn how different systems can be connected via interfaces and how recurring tasks can be automated.
ERPNext – Business Management System
ERPNext allows students to explore business processes directly. The system not only conveys theoretical knowledge but also demonstrates operational processes within realistic enterprise software.
Whisper – Transcription Service
The local Whisper service automatically transcribes audio and video content. Uploaded files are processed internally only and are automatically deleted from the server after transcription.
